All fish need food. If they didn't they would be pretty tough to
catch with a fly, a worm, or a lure! Knowing the type of food
that a fish eats will increase your knowledge and lead to
catching more fish. Fish are either piscivorous (they eat
other fish), omnivorous (eat both insects and fish), or insectivorous
(eat insects). Rainbow trout eat mostly insects, however,
larger rainbows do eat other fish. Next time you are out fishing
on a stream or lake, pay attention to the insects hovering
around or hiding under the rocks and debris in the water.
The more abundant the insect, the better the chance that it
is the one the fish are feeding on.
